Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system has been presented in South American market

On March 25-29, 2019 Tekvel engineers visited Lima (Peru), where, together with their partner - Soltec, they presented Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system for the local transmission and distribution utilities and system operator, and also participated in Expo Energia 2019 conference and exhibition. Tekvel Park was very much appreciated by the technical teams of both local utilities and leading vendors, presenting their solutions in South America.

It all started with Expo Energia 2019 conference and exhibition, which was held on March 26-27, 2019 in Lima, Peru. Tekvel engineers, with the support of the local partner - Soltec, presented Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system in the shared booth. The booth was attended by the representatives of the local electric power transmission and distribution utilities, system operator and also by the representatives of the leading vendors (ABB, SEL, General Electric and etc.). All of them confirmed SCD (System Configuration Description) file to be the crucial part and the required result of digital substation design stage, which needs to be verified and approved by the end customer. They also confirmed the there is a problem with understanding and interpretation of IEC 61850 communications over substation/station local area network (LAN). All of this calls for the need to have tools to visualize signal flow, described by SCD file, and to perform real-time monitoring and diagnostics of IEC 61850 communications.

Our company Soltec is working in the area of substation automation. And we have implemented the first two digital substations here in Peru and in Latin America in general. When we were implementing our digital substations we understood that we were having certain problems. We started looking for possible solutions to assist us and our clients in such situation. We discovered Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system, we checked it in operation and it turned out to be the real tool, which can really help us out in implementation of digital substations here in Peru, - says Miguel Mendoza, SOLTEC commercial manager.

For the rest of the week Tekvel and Soltec specialists were visiting local transmission and distribution utilities and system operator. In these meetings they presented the topic of «Digital substation quality assurance procedures: Requirements and Experiences» and presented a demo of Tekvel Park operation, using the SCD file of one of the projects, implemented in Peru. The system provided extremely clear visualization of all GOOSE and Sampled Values communications and their real-time monitoring and diagnostics.

Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system operates in a substation/station for the whole lifecycle and provides the implementation of the following functions:

  • Visualization of GOOSE and Sampled Values communications on the basis of provided SCD file.
  • Automated checks of SCD file validity against appropriate edition of the standard and against application requirements.
  • SCD file revision control.
  • Verification if the actual network traffic matches the communication configuration, described by SCD file.
  • Analysis of GOOSE communications.
  • Analysis of Sampled Values communications.
  • Analysis of IEC 61850 Reports and Controls.
  • Identification of unauthorized (not described in SCD file) hosts in the network.
  • Identification of unauthorized (not described in SCD file) GOOSE/Sampled Values messages in the network.
  • Event and waveform recording, based on IEC 61850 messages.

As a result of those meeting and exhibition activities, application of Tekvel Park digital substation lifecycle management system has been planned for several substations in Peru.
