We offer a 4-day training course. Each day combines theory with practical exercises, during which engineers learn how to design, configure and troubleshoot Ethernet networks and time synchronization systems that form the foundation of Digital Substations.

Awareness of Ethernet Networking and Time Synchronization for Digital Substations

This training is designed for protection, automation and control engineers, commissioning specialists, and project designers who need a solid understanding of networking fundamentals in Digital Substations.

You will gain practical knowledge of how local area networks operate in high-reliability environments: redundancy protocols (RSTP, HSR, PRP), VLANs, multicast filtering, traffic control, and time synchronization methods (SNTP, PTP). With hands-on exercises on multi-vendor switches, you will see how these technologies directly impact the performance of critical applications such as GOOSE and Sampled Values.

Outcome & Value: By the end of the course, participants will have clear technical foundations to confidently design, configure, and troubleshoot Ethernet networks and time synchronization systems for Digital Substations, ensuring robustness and predictable performance.

Программа

The training program follows a step-by-step approach to build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills:

  • Fundamentals – introduction to Ethernet networking in Digital Substations, redundancy concepts and topologies.

  • Network Configuration – VLANs, multicast filtering, and methods to control and optimize traffic for critical applications.

  • Time Synchronization – principles and configuration of SNTP and PTP, including their role in protection and automation systems.

  • Integration & Reliability – combining networking and time synchronization into reliable communication architectures, with emphasis on deterministic performance for GOOSE and Sampled Values.

Throughout the program, each topic is reinforced with hands-on exercises on multi-vendor equipment, ensuring participants can directly apply what they learn to real projects.
